February 1, 2009 Bells Bend Park, Nashville, TN

One of Nashville's newest parks, Bells Bend Park has diverse habitats in a rural setting. It should become a favorite of many and we will plan visits there throughout the various seasons of the year. NPC member Karol G. & husband joined me for this early morning photo walk. Photos by Lisa P.

January 23, 2009 Discovery Center Wetlands at  Murfree Spring

Photography is about opportunities and to be a successful photographer you must make opportunities. On a cold January day, members of the Nashville Photography Club met at the Discovery Center Wetlands in Murfreesboro to escape from cabin fever and to take advantage of the opportunity to photograph one of Tennessee's rarest salamanders, the Streamside Salamander. We had fun exploring the boardwalk and then met a couple of graduate students from MTSU who kindly brought a Streamside Salamander for us to photograph. The Streamside Salamander is unusual in that it lays its eggs underneath flat rocks in streams in only a few counties here in Tennessee. They breed and lay their eggs in December and January!
